Breeding Beta Fish

Fill 10 gallon tank with 2 inches of water in a low traffic area.

Add a sponge filter.

Add plastic plants and allow to float.

Add a aquarium heater and set to around 76 - 82.

Place a female beta in the tank.

Feed blood worm and freeze dried shrimp for a few weeks.

Introduce a male beta who has been making bubble nests.

Dim or darken the room and let the male harvest the eggs. This may appear violent and could look as though the female is being killed though that is not the case.

When the female does not seem to be dropping any more eggs or seems overly exhausted then you should carefully remove her to a clean tank to recuperate while the male looks after the eggs.

The male will take the eggs in his mouth and put them into his bubble nest.

When you notice the fry swimming around you should remove the male as he will die from stress trying to keep the fry in the bubble nest.

Feed the fry crushed up blood worm and freeze dried shrimp and a few weeks later you will start to see the rewards of your patience.
About Our Shop

After more than 20 years in the pet sales industry we have changed our stripes and stopped selling animals altogether. We are now firmly committed to finding new homes for as many unwanted pets as we can. There are plenty of great pets already out there without the market influence to buy and sell more pets. We now hope to turn every unwanted pet into someone else's new pet.
